Assistant Professor (Stage 2)
Department of Computer Applications
Sikkim University, Gangtok 737102, Sikkim, India
My research focuses on Internet of Things, Edge Artificial Intelligence, Pervasive Generative AI, and resource-constrained machine learning systems, with emphasis on reproducible deployment in real-world environments.
I have coined the terms such as: Internet of AI Things (IoAT), Pervasive Generative AI, and along with my colleague Pervasive Biomedical Informatics.
About Me:
Partha Pratim Ray is an Assistant Professor (Stage 2, Academic Level 11) in the Department of Computer Applications at Sikkim University, India. He has more than 14 years of experience in higher education, teaching, research, curriculum development, student mentoring, and academic administration. He is currently at the pre-submission stage of his Ph.D. in Computer Applications at Sikkim University, with research focused on “Enabling Large Language Model on Resource-Constrained Edge: A Multi-Faceted Approach.” He holds an M.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering with specialization in Embedded Systems and a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, and he qualified GATE in Computer Science and Engineering.
His research interests include Pervasive Generative AI, Internet of Things, Edge Computing, and Pervasive Biomedical Informatics. He is credited with conceptualizing and advancing the research paradigms of coining the Pervasive Biomedical Informatics (PBI), Internet of AI Things (IoAT), and Pervasive Generative AI, with a common focus on intelligent, context-aware, and resource-efficient computing for real-world environments.
Mr. Ray has an extensive scholarly record, including 131 SCI-indexed journal publications, 2 SSCI-indexed journal publications, 34 Scopus-indexed journal publications, 11 books, several book chapters, and numerous international conference papers. His research impact is reflected in 15,000 Google Scholar citations, with an h-index of 42 and an i10-index of 92.
He has received several national and international recognitions, including inclusion among the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University from 2020 to 2025. His other recognitions include Fellow status in the Institution of Engineers in Scotland (FIES), Thinking About Thinking, and FIETE, Senior Membership of IEEE (SMIEEE) and INAE (M-INAE), the IEI Young Engineers Award, the Sikkim University Publication Award, and multiple best paper and young scientist awards.
He also contributes actively to the academic community through editorial and professional service. He serves as Editor of the IETE Journal of Education, Associate Editor of Frontiers in Communications and Networks and Frontiers in Bioinformatics, and as an Editorial Board Member of multiple EAI Endorsed Transactions. He is also associated with several professional bodies, including IEEE, INAE, IETE, IES, IET, IEI, ACM, CSI, ISOC, AAM, IMS, and others.
Beyond his technical research, he is committed to interdisciplinary scholarship connecting AI, IoT, edge intelligence, healthcare, biomedical informatics, intelligent systems, and societal applications of emerging technologies. He is also a strong advocate of Indian Knowledge Systems and has informally established the Indian Knowledge Forum to promote and disseminate India’s indigenous knowledge traditions in contemporary academic and public contexts.
